90 Days to Your First Paying AI SaaS Customer
This roadmap has been battle-tested with dozens of founders. It's aggressive but achievable with focus and the right team. The key principle: get to revenue as fast as possible, learn, and iterate.
Days 1–14: Validation (Before Writing Code)
Week 1: 20 customer discovery calls with your target persona. Ask about their current process, pain points, and what a perfect solution looks like. Don't pitch — listen. Record everything.
Week 2: Analyze interview patterns. Identify the single most painful, frequent, and underserved problem. Validate with 5 verbal commitments: "If we built X, would you pay $Y/month?" Get email addresses. Build a waitlist landing page (use Framer or Carrd for speed).
Days 15–30: Foundation
Set up your tech stack (Next.js, Vercel, Neon, Clerk, Stripe). Build the project skeleton with auth and a "hello world" AI endpoint. No UI polish yet — just working infrastructure. Start a development blog or LinkedIn posts about what you're building (builds an audience for launch).
Days 31–60: Core Build
Sprint 1 (days 31–44): Core AI feature working end-to-end with real data. Show to 5 waitlist users weekly for feedback.
Sprint 2 (days 45–60): Dashboard, usage tracking, onboarding flow. Start charging beta users — even $1/month. Paid users give better feedback and you validate willingness to pay.
Days 61–75: Polish & Launch Prep
Bug fixes from beta feedback. Marketing site with case studies from beta users. SEO-optimized blog (5 posts minimum). Prepare Product Hunt assets. Email sequence for new signups (onboarding, feature highlights, upgrade prompts).
Days 76–90: Launch & Initial Growth
Product Hunt launch (Day 76). LinkedIn/Twitter announcement. Cold email to waitlist. Targeted outreach to 100 ideal customers. Goal: 50 trial signups, 10 paying customers. That's your PMF signal baseline.
